Alex, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of his family, on January 15, 2025, at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care.
Born October 6, 1938, in Joliet, Alex was the son of Alex and Sophie (Née Zamkovitz) Abramovich. He was a graduate of Lockport Township High School and a retired employee of ComEd after many years of dedicated service.
Alex loved his river; mostly, spending time with his family and friends and caring for his beautiful yard. He was known for having a “green thumb”. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and amazing friend to all. He was truly the perfect host to us every Sunday when the family gathered at the river to relax, play cards and share a meal together. We will truly miss Alex and his “Words of Wisdom” that he always shared with us.
Alex is preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Sophie Abramovich, and mother-in-law, Loretta Brncich.
He is survived by his loving family; daughter, Dawn (Pavlich) Gallegos; son-in-law, Danny Gallegos; grandchildren, Delaney, Darci and Daniel Gallegos; his chosen family, Pattie Pavlich, Bill Soraghan and Andy Pavlich; brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and many cherished friends.
Per Alex’s wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A private Celebration of Alex’s life was held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Alex was laid to rest in St. Mary Nativity Cemetery.
A sincere thank you to Lightways Hospice and Sally and Bob Bertani for taking special care of Alex.
