Angelina M. “Angie” Gerl
Age 97 of Crest Hill, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Alden Estates of Shorewood, with her family by her side.
Born January 17, 1924 in Joliet, IL, Angie was a daughter of Anthony and Catherine (Née Puleo) Capitino.
She was raised in the Joliet area, which is now known as Crest Hill.
On September 27, 1947 Angie married Rudolph J. “Rudy” Gerl in The Church of St. Anthony, and was truly a dedicated housewife and mother.
She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, the Women of the Moose Lodge #300, Joliet Rivals Club, Senior Citizens of Will County and Young Timer’s Association.
Angie was an avid bowler, and for over 40 years she gathered weekly with her sisters and many friends on bowling leagues at Crest Hill and Strike and Spare bowling alleys. She always loved to have gatherings at her home for meals and playing cards.
Survivors include her children; William (Joan) Gerl and Cathy (Steven) Reynolds, grandchildren; BJ (Lyneen) Gerl, Michael (Kristalyn) Gerl, Brian (Kristy) Reynolds and Lisa (Michael) Brinkley, great-grandchildren; Kaden, Bryce, Brett, Lilly, Audrey and Liam Gerl, Savannah and Tanner Brinkley, Olivia and Greyson Reynolds, sister; Mary (late Joe) Cusimano and numerous nieces and nephews.
Angie was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Rudolph “Rudy” Gerl (1993), parents; Anthony and Catherine Capitino, siblings; Josephine, and Rosalie Capitino, Maggie (Matt) Fassiotto, Anthony Capitino (died in World War II), Paul (Frances) Capitino, Rose (Tony) Picciolo and Catherine (Anthony) Frankovich.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1800 N. Dearborn Street, Crest Hill, on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Rev. Anthony Nyamai officiating.
Angie will be entombed beside her husband in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum, Romeoville, IL.
