It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Caley Marie Maradei (Née Alessio).
Caley Maradei was born on July 30, 1989, in Joliet, Illinois, to Carla and Sam Alessio. Caley was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (“ALS”) in early 2024. She navigated her diagnosis with unwavering bravery, positivity, and altruism. Although the road ahead was unpredictable, Caley continued to fill her home with joy, lived her life to the fullest, and lit up every room she entered. Due to complications with her ALS diagnosis, Caley was tragically taken from the world too soon.
Caley is the beloved wife of her husband, Dan Maradei, and devoted mother of two beautiful daughters, Eloise (4 years old) and Quinn (2 years old). She is survived by her parents, Sam and Carla Alessio; her three siblings, Vincent (Riley) Alessio, Madeline (Spencer) Dotseth, and Samantha Alessio; her grandmother, Joyce Ebben; her nephews Jay and Carmen Alessio; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as countless other friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Josie Juresic and Jim Alessio, her maternal grandfather, Bill Ligon, and other close family and friends.
Caley was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Above all, Caley was an intelligent, warm, charismatic, and gracious woman. Her light will live on through her daughters – in their smiles, laughter, and kindness.
From the day her daughters were born, Caley’s main pursuit was to fill their life with love, light, and laughter. She spent her days smiling with her husband Dan, and playing with her girls, Eloise and Quinn.
She graduated from Illinois State University in 2012, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Caley had an accomplished career as a healthcare informatics leader. She was Epic certified and worked at Stanford Health Care, Lurie Children’s Hospital Chicago, and various other organizations.
Caley was well traveled, as she took various international trips with her husband and annual vacations with her closest friends. Her competitive spirit reached far and wide, from high school track and cross country to the Chicago Marathon, to game nights with family. She was a great listener, funny, supportive, philanthropic, and kind. She will deeply be missed by many people.
