Clifford Long, Jr.

Age 86 of Joliet, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital with his family by his side.

Born September 14, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia, Clifford was a son of Clifford Long Sr. and Thelma Long (Née Goodlet). He was raised in the Atlanta area and lived in Illinois, Indiana, California, and Maine throughout his lifetime. He then settled in Joliet, Illinois with his daughter and grandson.

Clifford was Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at American National Can Company. Retired in 1996 after 30+ years of dedicated service. Clifford was well respected and admired by his team of engineers. Clifford was always willing to help others advance and succeed in their careers.

He enjoyed building computers, playing blackjack, fishing, watching the Chicago Cubs and football. Clifford loved spending time with his family, going on summertime fishing trips with his grandson,  Celebrating father’s day at Maywood race track buffet, watching baseball and football games with the family and being led by his 3yr great grand-daughter  for a walk. He looked forward to her bringing him a snack at night before she went to bed. He was tickled by the 1yr old great grand-daughter showing him where to sit and letting him know when it was time to go outside. Clifford loved his grandson and adored his great-grand-daughters.

He was a wonderful person, loving, giving and a true gentleman. Clifford touched many people’s lives from his family to friends and co-workers. He will be truly missed.

Survivors include his children; Sharon (Arturo, Jr.) Long-Cerda, Tonya Smith, Joseph Long, Theresa Long and Steve Long, Grandson; Devynn A. (Sophie) Cerda, great-grandchildren; Kahmora and Zayah Cerda and a host of grand and great-grandchildren,

siblings; Edward (Lydia) Long, Jerine Rasheed, Donna Cadwell and Anna Marie Long, uncle; Robert (Carla) Long, former spouse; Ernestine Brown-Nunn,  Companion Rosa Morales and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Thelma Long, Sr., son; Clifford Long III., spouse; Mary F Long and Betty Long.    

Private services were held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60435.
