Corinne L. “Corky” Shields
Age 92 of Crest Hill, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021, with family by her side.
Born on May 21, 1929 in Joliet, Corinne was a daughter of Amos L. and Loretta (Née Skoff) Joutras.
She was a lifelong Joliet area resident, a graduate of Joliet Township High School, Class of 1948 and married Raymond F. Shields Sr. on June 17, 1950, at St. Raymond Catholic Church (Cathedral of St. Raymond) in Joliet.
Corky was retired from Monroe Egg Hatchery after ten years of dedicated service.
She was a longtime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Joliet Elks #296 – Ladies Auxiliary, and Loyal Order of the Moose #300– Ladies Auxiliary.
In her free time, she enjoyed traveling with Ray to Hayward, Wisconsin fishing on the Chippewa flowage and Acapulco.
Survivors include her children; Peggy (Pat) Guffey, Raymond F. (Sandy) Shields, Jr., Deb (Bill) Rathbun and Michael (Mary Ann Weiner) Shields, grandchildren; Trisha (Chad) Simpson, Lisa (Louie) Cardwell, Michelle (Jason) Rodeghero, Grant (Jessica) Shields, Jake Shields, Jennifer (Dave Goldstein) Rathbun, Kenneth (Jennifer) Rathbun, Brittany (Zack) Forbing and Stephanie Shields, fifteen great-grandchildren, sisters; Marilyn Rakar and Gerry Plese and sister-in-law; Lillian (late Raymond) Kezerle.
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Corky was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Raymond F. “Ray” Shields, Sr. (October 19, 2021); her parents, Amos L. and Loretta Joutras; brother, Louis A. (late Betty Joutras-Brewer) Joutras; brothers-in-law, Gene Rakar and Luke Plese; mother and father-in-law, John and Elizabeth Shields; sisters-in-law, Kathleen (late Stephen) Popovich and Margaret Shields and brother-in-law, John (late Mary Earlene) Shields.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1705 Burry Circle Drive, Crest Hill, IL on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., Rev Anthony Nyamai officiating.
Facemasks are required in Church.
Corky will be laid to rest beside her husband at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet.
