Age 79 of Crest Hill, IL, passed away on October 28, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Born December 31, 1944, in Montgomery, Alabama, Jeannie was a daughter of Eugene and Margaret (Née Calhoun) Munro. She was raised in the Jeffrey Manor neighborhood of Chicago, IL.
On August 22, 1964, Jeannie married Edward J. Hurysz at East Side United Methodist Church, Chicago. They moved to Dolton, Illinois to raise their two daughters until Ed retired in 1995 and they moved to Gilbert, Arizona.
Jeannie and Ed spent 22 years in Arizona where they enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. She spent her free time volunteering for hospice and various breast cancer organizations. She was happiest when she was able to spend time with her grandchildren, whom she adored.
After Ed’s passing in 2016, Jeannie moved to Crest Hill, IL to be closer to family. She enjoyed attending many school and sporting events her grandchildren participated in.
Jeannie loved gathering to play cards, and mahjong and especially enjoyed her neighborhood driveway get togethers each night that began in 2020 and continues today.
Jeannie was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her devoted daughters; Tina (Chris) Shanahan and Julie (John) Shapiro; adored grandchildren, John (fiancé – Christie Pipkins) Shanahan, Will Shanahan, Katie Shapiro and Connor Shapiro; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her canine companion; Callie, and many wonderful neighbors and friends from Carillon Lakes and Arizona; too many to mention.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Edward Hurysz; parents, Eugene and Margaret Munro; sister, Laura “Kay” (late Robert) Vanderbye, and brother, Kenneth Munro.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60435. A service will follow at 4:30 p.m., Elder Dave Peters, officiating.
Jeannie will be laid to rest with her husband in Orland Memorial Park Cemetery, Orland Park, IL, at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to KnittedKnockers.org, or Komen.org., and would continue her support of two breast cancer charities close to her heart.
