Helen C. (née Slucki) Hucik “Busia”
Age 100 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022 with her family by her side.
Born August 21, 1922 in Joliet, Helen was the daughter of Walter and Anna (née Papiernik) Slucki. She was a graduate of St. Thaddeus Grade School and Joliet Township (Central) High School. On October 25, 1947, she married Thomas E. Hucik in St. Thaddeus Church.
Survived by her daughters, Carol (Bernie) Riegel and Joyce (Dan) Conner; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Shavon) Conner, Brian (Angela) Conner and Katie (Chris) Lowe; great-grandchildren; Talan, Reed, Kinsley and Bryant Conner, Lily, Kayla and Mya Lowe and Avery Conner; nephews and nieces, Dennis Slucki and David Slucki, Beverly Schewe, Marlene Hinthorn, Elaine Bessette and Laura Wickstrom. Also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Thomas E. Hucik (2012); parents, Walter and Anna Slucki; brothers, Casimir, John (late Marge) and Stanley Slucki; sister, Lottie (late George) Kaduchak; sister-in-law, Irene (late Art) Jahnke; nephew, Robert J. Kaduchak; niece, Nancy Munday and great-nephew, Wayne Schewe, Jr.
Helen was active with the VFW Cantigny Post #367 Ladies Auxiliary, a lifelong parishioner of Holy Cross Parish and the Mothers Club.
She loved the Chicago Cubs, playing Bingo and making visits to the Casino.
Helen will be remembered for the many children she took to their first Chicago Cub’s Game. For the past sixty years, she enjoyed taking a shot of honey whiskey every night saying it “cleans her pipes.” She also enjoyed family vacations to Siesta Key, Hawaii, Minnesota and Las Vegas. Her favorite trips were following the Chicago Cubs.
On Sunday, August 21st, 2022, Helen was honored with a celebration of her 100th birthday at Sunny Hill Nursing Home where she enjoyed the company of all of her family and friends who came from near and far.
The family offers their sincere gratitude to the 5th Avenue staff of Sunny Hill Nursing Home for their love, care and respect of Helen during her stay the past four years.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 11:50 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 830 Elizabeth Street, Joliet, IL 60435,
A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:00 noon, Rev Jerome Kish officiating.
Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
