Anthony “Tony” Zigrossi

Age 88 of Joliet, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Lightways Hospice Home with his family by his side.

Born February 5, 1934 in Joliet, Tony was a son of Dan and Marie (Née Alberico) Zigrossi. He was raised in the Crest Hill area and graduated from Lockport Township High School. 

He was a heavy equipment operator and retired from the Operating Engineers Local 150 after 40 plus years of dedicated service.

Tony was a member of St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, the Joliet Civic Club and a proud United States Army Veteran having served in Germany.

In his free time, Tony enjoyed fishing, puttering in his garage and hosting pig roasts for all of friends and family.            

Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years; Charlotte (Née Tessmer) Zigrossi, children; William (Margo) Zigrossi, Toni Lynn (Mike) Thomas, Sue Zigrossi and Laura (Russell) Fratto; fourteen grandchildren; eight great –grandchildren with his ninth great- grandson, Riley who was born the day after his passing; sister, Dena (Jim) Babicki and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony was preceded in death by his children; Janet Hietschold and Tina Harris; grandchildren, Russell Fratto and Marissa Fratto; parents, Dan and Marie Zigrossi and siblings; Sam (Renee) Zigrossi and Angelo Zigrossi.                                                                             

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60435 at 9:00 a.m. with prayers at 10:15 a.m.; then processing to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Jerome Kish officiating.

Tony will be laid to rest in a private committal service.
